| The New Jersey Devils' quest for the Stanley Cup is going to start with the longest road trip in franchise history.
With the new Prudential Center in Newark getting its final touches, the Devils will begin the season with a nine-game, three-week sojourn that will include a couple of quick pit stops at home to say hello to family and friends.

| Mark Bell was cleared to play by doctors in the NHL's substance abuse program on Tuesday, but the new Toronto Maple Leafs forward will now have to serve the 15-game suspension handed down by the league. | Sabres' Kotalik likely to miss opener |
| Sabres forward Ales Kotalik is expected to miss Buffalo's season opener against the New York Islanders on Friday because of a knee injury.
Coach Lindy Ruff said Monday that Kotalik is experiencing pain in his knee and has not been cleared to skate.
"It doesn't look good for playing in the opener or this opening weekend, but I wouldn't project past that of him missing any more games," Ruff said.
After hosting the Islanders on Friday, the two teams play again on Long Island the following day. -- read full article |

| Miroslav Satan and Jon Sim scored in the final 5:51, lifting the New York Islanders to a 4-2 victory over the Boston Bruins on Sunday in the preseason finale for both teams.
The Bruins took a 1-0 lead when, with the teams playing 4-on-4, Dave Krejci made a nifty move in the New York zone and beat Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro at 5:09 of the first period. | Ducks earn split with Kings |
| In a country all too familiar with soccer hooligans, the fight on the ice between the Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings on Sunday proved the main attraction .
The Ducks won 4-1 in the second game of the NHL's season-opening series in London, but it was the fisticuffs many fans came to see.
